Liver Depertment
In liver transplantation surgery, the patient’s diseased liver is completely removed and replaced with a healthy liver from a donor. The donor liver may come from a deceased person, where typically the entire liver is transplanted, or from a living family member who donates a portion of their liver. Remarkably, even though we have only one liver, it can be safely divided into two parts—one for the transplant and the other left with the donor. Both sections have the unique ability to regenerate and return to their original size within 4–6 weeks, though the shape may differ from before.
